The U.S. State Department announced it requires nearly all applicants for U.S. visa to submit their email addresses, phone numbers, and any information about social media accounts they have used in the past five years. The State Department labeled ‘national security’ as their top priority when adjudicating visa applications, and added they are working to find ways to improve the screening processes to protect U.S. citizens. Previously, personal data had only been sought from applicants who were born in or traveled to areas controlled by terrorist organizations. But from now on, 14 million travelers to the U.S. and 710,000 immigrant visa applicants will be affected by the changes. We will talk with a local expert and a domestic legal expert about the controversy that would derive from the move.
Other topics to be discussed include the deadly boat sinking accident in Hungary, U.S. tariff hike on Mexico, and the adverse effect of Japanese recluses on local society.
