Episode 50 France, two soldiers killed in hostage rescue operation

The French special forces rescued four tourists abducted by Burkina Faso militants in West Africa. Four hostages consist of two French nationals, an American, and a South Korean were brought back safely while two soldiers were killed in action. Meanwhile, people in France are pointing fingers at the rescued travelers for visiting dangerous regions despite the authorities’ warnings. The official memorial service to honor the two fallen troops took place on May 14th in downtown Paris. Following the incident, there are growing calls in South Korea to impose stricter guidelines on its travel advisories and raise public awareness about traveling to dangerous regions. We will discuss how the French public is responding to the rescue mission, and further measures South Korea would take in the wake of the happening.Other topics to be discussed include the U.S.-China trade talks fallout, Istanbul re-election, and escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
