Venezuela, which found itself in a political turmoil with two presidents in line, has seen a military coup attempt failed. The two-day military uprising against the government occurred on April 30th while self-proclaimed interim president and the National Assembly speaker Juan Guaido has called on President Nicolas Maduro to step down. In the protest, at least four people were killed, 230 were injured, and some 200 others were detained. The bloody mutiny ended as the military forces that took part in the protest, pledged their allegiance to Maduro. To show his defiance, Maduro held a military parade featuring some 4500 troops. U.S. media meanwhile, criticized the Trump administration for overrating the power of anti-Maduro clans and for misjudging the political situation.
Even after the uprising has ended in failure, opposition parties and their supporters are continuing to rally against Maduro. They are calling on the president to step down, saying that problems related to corruption, economic inflation, and electoral fraud have emerged and got worse since he stepped into power. Meanwhile, Maduro is accusing the U.S. of plotting a scheme to topple Venezuela’s socialist regime. With Washington hinting at a possible military intervention into the South American nation, the discussion would be centered around the uncertain future of Venezuela.
Other topics of discussion include the military clash between Israel and Palestine, the Russian aircraft accident, a coronation ceremony of Thailand’s new King, and more.
