As 5G technology is becoming commercialized, realistic contents are pouring out in Korea! Various advanced technology, such as fast network, virtual reality, augmented reality, and more, are combined to create a cinematic scene. "Telepresence," which has made possible realistic communication with other people, is the center of attention. By connecting different spaces, real time communication is now possible. Even in the field of performance production, telepresence is being used most actively, and it gives the effect of actors actually performing in front of you. The actors pre-record the video to be used for performances in a special studio, then use a telepresence transmission device to transmit data to the concert hall. Telepresence also allows people in different places to hold a meeting. If such a remote virtual conference is commercialized, what was only possible in movies, where people from different places gather to hold a meeting, will become a reality. Moreover, telepresence technology is used in university lectures, in which students' concentration and participation are better with telepresence. We explore telepresence, which is developing throughout many industries, and will torn down the wall of space difference.
Ever since earthquakes in Pohang and Gyeongju, earthquakes have been constantly occurring in Korea. Earthquakes can not only take away lives of many, but also cause enormous property damages. Due to the extent of the damage, Korea is developing various "earthquake disaster prevention technology." Especially, in order to protect important information, various methods have been devised to protect servers and cultural assets, which are national heritage. The most representative method of protection is known to be isolation technology, where propagation of vibration is blocked through a double structure. It uses elastic cushioning material or it separates the structure from the floor to prevent it from shaking or collapsing, even in the event of a big vibration. The technology is currently widely used in many server rooms and museums. In addition, seismic reinforcement works are being caried out for the safety of old buildings, which lack earthquake-proof design. One of such methods is to install a minimum steel frame where needed in order to strengthen the entire building against impact. Optical sensors, which quickly and accurately determine the degree of deformation immediately after an earthquake, are being refined day by day. To protect our lives and to promote safety, we introduce rapidly developing "earthquake disaster prevention technology" in Korea.
Japan has recently restricted export of high tech materials like semiconductors and displays. As a result, there is a growing movement to localize technology, especially in areas that are highly dependent on overseas products and lack localization! Robotics is an area that has consistently promoting localization for a long time. Although most robot companies in Korea design and develop software directly, the key parts in robots are imported. Reducers are especially the major components that allows precise movement of the robot joint. The continuous effort by Korean companies has allowed success in going beyond simple component development, but mass production through self-designed structure. Some companies have even succeeded in localizing bearing parts, which are one of precision control parts for semiconductor and LCD equipment. Korean components are receiving considerable attention for its quality that is as good and for its financial competitiveness. Besides localization of semiconductors and robots, there is a growing desire to localize other parts dependent on foreign countries as well. Even drones, which are major technology of 4th Industrial Revolution, are highly dependent on overseas products. Korea is working to improve drone industry's competitiveness by developing and producing all drone devices. We introduce research institutes of domestic companies that are working to reduce their dependence on foreign countries and enhance their own technology.
