A growing number of areas have introduced 3D scanning technology to reduce time and cost. 3D scanning is a technology which can realize three-dimensional images of various objects by using a 3D scanner. And the measuring methods have also evolved along with the continuing growth of the related techniques. Construction is one of the areas that has actively implemented 3D scanning technology. It can decrease the error range and improve accuracy in comparison to the result measured with a tapeline. The measured result can also boost researches on the construction area. Cultural assets and damaged buildings can be restored thanks to the advanced 3D scanning technology. Moreover, 3D scanning technology has contributed to improving health by providing a customized healthcare service. A variety of information including the body size, body fat and calorie consumption can be obtained. A 4D scanning technology has been developed in the domestic market and it has led to the realization of various media contents. In case of the existing 3D scanning technology, three-dimensional data has been created only for the static objects. However, based on the 4D scanning, it is possible to create 3D data even on the movements of the objects. Therefore, 4D scanning technology has received the limelight in the fields of AR and VR. We introduce 3D scanning technology, which can enrich the lives of people.
A lot of different biological resources including trees and microorganisms have been used for various industrial sectors. However, a variety of biological resources are discarded when they reach the end of their lifetime. And the technologies, which can create economic benefits by reusing the abandoned materials, have been actively developed. Bioenergy, which can create new energy sources by making use of organic waste, has recently garnered a lot of attention. Wood pellet, which is made with the byproducts produced when processing wood, is one of the examples. The bark of trees and small pieces of wood are ground and compressed into a form of a small cork. Wood pellets can be used for different industries as well as in households instead of fossil fuels. Moreover, in case of food waste effluent which is high in salt and oil, it can be fermented and used for the production of biogas. Carbon dioxide or methane are produced when adding microorganisms and fermenting the materials and the produced biogas can be used as a fuel for city buses. There is a bioenergy source that is created by using aquatic organisms. The incubated microalgae can be used as a main material when extracting oil that can be used as a fuel. We look into bioenergy, which can turn the discarded materials into useful and clean energy sources.
Yonsei Cancer Center is a domestic medical institute which has introduced cutting-edge medical devices and systematic methods in order to provide optimal treatments to cancer patients. An average of 6,000 foreign patients have visited the center every year since the opening of the hospital. About 1,000 professional doctors and staffs check the conditions of patients day and night in order to immediately cope with emergency situations and lead the development of the domestic medical technologies. In 2005, the center introduced robotic surgeries for the first time in Korea, and now, it has eight robotic surgical instruments which can provide advanced medical services to patients. And cutting-edge devices for radiation treatment, which can reduce side effects and maximize the strengths, have helped the patients recover cancer. “Best-team clinic” is another strength of Yonsei Cancer Center. Doctors from different departments gather and provide customized treatment solutions to cancer patients. So it has increased the satisfaction level of the patients as well as medical staffs. We explore Yonsei Cancer Center, which has provided advanced medical services based on the cutting-edge medical technologies and strengthened its position in the global medical sector.
