It has garnered a lot of attention among consumers due to the fine dust issue. Also, the number of energy-independent village has increased. An energy-independent village located in Seoul has installed over 500 solar panels and generated electricity with solar energy. Free economic zones have been designated to secure the autonomous economic activities of companies and attract investment more effectively. The districts are all located near ports and airports. And they have established improved infrastructure based on the talented manpower. Therefore, it has achieved continuous growth as a district where various industries including manufacturing, distribution, tourism and service coexist. In 2003, Incheon Free Economic Zone became the first nationally designated economic zone. It has built an advanced environment for global businesses based on the Incheon International Airport as well as Incheon port. And it has emerged as a smart city that leads the high-tech industries amid the era of the fourth industrial revolution. Yellow Sea Free Economic Zone was established with Pyeongtaek port as the center. And a lot of global companies in the field of high-tech industry have formed industrial clusters. Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone is a region where new industries as well as culture and tourism industries coexist. A bio cluster has been established in Chungbuk Free Economic Zone and it has strengthened its competitiveness as a global city. East coast Free Economic Zone has become one of the promising regions which can create higher value-added businesses based on the abundant nonferrous metal resources. Moreover, a lot of higher value-added businesses coexist in Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone. And Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone has formed improved infrastructure for knowledge-based industries and service sector. We look into seven free economic zones of Korea which have created higher added values and emerged as a hub of global businesses.
