Algeria is Africa’s largest country by land mass with beautiful coastlines touching the Mediterreanean. The country boasts the world’s 10th largest natural gas reserves and 15th largest oil reserves. After nine years of fighting, Algeria finally gained independence from France on July 5, 1962. Since then, the country has aimed to create an equal society becoming the no. 1 country for women’s enrolment in tertiary education and 15th in the world for wage equality for similar work. 2020 is a special year for Korea and Algeria as they celebrate the 30th year of bilateral relations. Going beyond the current cooperation in fossil fuel energy, the two countries are also looking for new ways to cooperate on environmental issues including air pollution. Ambassador Mohammed El Amine DERRAGUI has widened the horizons for bilateral relations from economic cooperation to cultural exchange along with his wife, Chafika DERRAGUI. As the two sides celebrate 30 years of friendship, we will hear about future cooperative projects from the Ambassador and his wife.
