On this week’s “The Diplomat,” we meet Ambassador of Finland to S. Korea, Eero Suominen. The “Man, Matter, Metamorphosis - 10 000 Years of Design” exhibit was held at the National Museum of Korea recently. Finland is a design powerhouse that the world pays attention to. The exhibition introduces the materials, culture and technologies that have changed for 10,000 years in Finland from a new viewpoint, becoming the center of cultural exchange between Korea and Finland. Ambassador Eero Suominen showed great pride in presenting the exhibition in Korea. In addition to culture, there is a national sentiment that values harmony, coexistence and diversity which has created the foundation for today's Finland that includes the government's solid welfare system, systematic trade unions and innovative political culture. The Ambassador explained that public trust in the government and educational institutions is high, and the willingness of individual citizens to voluntarily participate in social problems, such as joining NGOs, is high. We’ll take a closer look at the potential synergy effect that Korea and Finland’s cooperation can bring with Ambassador Suominen.
