On this week’s “The Diplomat,” we meet Ambassador of Ethiopia to S. Korea, Shiferaw Shigutie Wolassa. Ethiopia is where coffee was first discovered and Africa’s largest coffee producer. The country boasts a unique coffee culture including Bunna Maflat. During the Korean War, Ethiopia was the only African country to send around 6,000 troops creating an alliance forged with blood. Since then, the two sides have developed bilateral ties based on their shared value of peace. In 2019, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali won the Nobel Peace Prize for efforts to bring peace with neighboring Eritrea following 20 years of conflict. We will hear from Ambassador Wolassa on bilateral cooperation for peace and reconstruction.
