2019 marks the centennial anniversary of Korea's March 1 Independence Movement and the founding of Korea's provisional government in exile during Japanese colonial rule. Around the same time, a country in Eastern Europe was also fighting for independence – Georgia. The country gained independence from the Russian Empire in 1918 and established its first modern republic state, the Democratic Republic of Georgia, in the same year but was reoccupied by the USSR in 1921 before finally declaring its independence again in 1991.
In commemoration of Korea's 100th anniversary, we sit down with Georgian Ambassador to Korea Otar Berdzenishvili to talk about the significance of independence and the status of the Korea-Georgia relationship. The program also covers Ambassador's efforts to promote Georgian culture in Korea using the mediums of cinema and wine. .
