2018 was a truly meaningful year for the Korean Peninsula, marked by epochal improvement and development of inter-Korean relations. Continuing the momentum from 2018, the year 2019 is expected to be historic with the establishment of permanent peace, prosperity, and denuclearization. What does the future hold for Korea, and how can we achieve those goals?
On the first edition of "The Diplomat" in 2019, we find answers to these questions with top North Korea expert Chung Dong-young, Chairman of the Party for Democracy and Peace and former Unification Minister of Korea. He shares his experience of having a 150-minute meeting with the late Chairman Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-un's father. Also, he talks about ways to break the current stalemate in nuclear negotiations between Pyeongyang and Washington and organize a second North Korea-U.S. summit, as well as the South's role along the way.
