WIPO is the World Intellectual Property Organization that protects intellectual property and encourages creative activities worldwide. As a specialized agency of the United Nations that has 192 member states, WIPO serves as the 'Global IP Office' setting international standards for intellectual property rights.
Director General Francis Gurry has been working in WIPO since 1985. With a keen interest in the intellectual property enhanced by Korea's advanced technologies, he is currently visiting Korea, while also finding time to be in the Heart-to-Heart studio.
Today, society has entered the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Value creation based on intellectual property has risen as a noteworthy industry, and it has given birth to all sorts of conflicts with regards to intellectual property rights. Thus, WIPO's role in protecting intellectual property worldwide is becoming ever more critical.
On today's Heart-to-Heart, we will hear from Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO, about the organization and its wide-ranging activities.
