Airborne particulate matter is being raised as a critical environmental issue in East Asian countries, including Korea. In celebration of World Environment Day, we will pick up on the truth and misconceptions about particulate matter and seek how we can collectively deal with the environmental issue.
For over 30 years, Jang Jae-Yeon, a professor of Preventive Medicine at Ajou University, has studied environmental pollution, including particulate matter. In 1988, he became the first person in Korea to earn a Ph.D. with a thesis on the mutagenic and carcinogenic substance of airborne PM2.5, i.e., particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers.
As a co-representative of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement, the largest environmental organization in Korea, and Chairman of the Korea Safety Health Environment Foundation, he has done environmental work on various fronts.
On Heart-to-Heart, we will hear from professor Jang Jae-Yeon about the A to Z of particulate matter.
