Ewha Womans' University Professor Moon Jae-sook is a renowned gayageum musician and practitioner of Korea's Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 23, gayageum sanjo and byeongchang, who has devoted her life to promoting gayageum and Korean traditional music to the world. In an effort to publicize to the world that gayageum is a Korean instrument, she organized the world's largest gayageum concert, drawing gayageum players of all levels of skills from all across the country. Her two daughters – professional gayageum player Lee Seul-gi and actress Lee Honey – are also following their mother's footsteps and providing steadfast support. As a result, the record-breaking gayageum concert was a resounding success, with 1,168 participants, way over the projected number of 1,004 musicians. Let's talk to Prof. Moon Jae-sook, who is determined to make Koreans realize the preciousness of what is Korean and to promote and globalize gayageum.
