The highly-contagious Delta variant is rapidly spreading across the world. The variant accounts for 90 percent of cases in the UK, and 20 percent of cases in the U.S. The surge in Delta variant cases has prompted even countries with high vaccination rates to tighten their borders and travel rules. The South Korean government eased social distancing rules starting Jul. 1. But the low vaccination rate and the emergence of variants have triggered a debate over whether the country should put restrictions back in place. Meanwhile, health experts warn that Delta is becoming the dominant variant of COVID-19 worldwide, which could trigger a new wave of infections this fall. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss these developments in further detail.
