As COVID-19 vaccinations pick up, countries are considering vaccine passports to reopen the economy and restart international travel. China has already launched a digital health certificate program for those who have been vaccinated. Economies that rely heavily on tourism, such as Greece and Spain, are also working on a vaccination passport for their citizens. However, there are concerns that vaccine passports might lead to unwanted discrimination between vaccinated and non-vaccinated people, exacerbating existing inequalities. Experts have also raised privacy and security concerns. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to shed light on the growing debate over vaccine passports.
