A study by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital found that there is no correlation between income and COVID-19 mortality risk in Korea, owing to the country’s well-established public healthcare system, which covers treatment costs for COVID-19. In the wake of a third wave of infections in Dec., the Korean government began to offer free COVID-19 testing. Anyone can get a free test including those who don't have symptoms. Korea is set to launch its mass vaccination program this month starting with priority groups such as frontline medical workers. The government will vaccinate all Korean nationals free of charge and provide compensation in case of serious side effects. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss the strain of the pandemic on the public healthcare systems around the world.
