Foreign Correspondents Ep.222
The two sides of artificial intelligence

A South Korean AI chatbot named Lee Luda was suspended after using offensive language about sexual minorities and people with disabilities, sparking a heated debate over AI ethics. Its developer was also accused of collecting private conversations without explicit consent to train the chatbot. This is not the first time AI has been the subject of controversy over its hate speech. Microsoft’s chatbot Tay was taken offline it made racist and sexist tweets. Are existing guidelines enough to address the ethical challenges of AI systems? In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to identify the positive and negative aspects of AI and discuss potential ethical issues surrounding its applications.
