Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on Dec. 10, the day when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 72 years ago. Where do human rights stand today in a world shaken by the COVID-19 pandemic? A new security bill in France has raised serious concerns about freedom of expression and the press, prompting protests across the country. The pandemic has presented a new challenge to human rights protection, with governments being tasked with balancing civil liberties and public health. What measures are in place to contain the spread of the virus and how are they being met by the public?
