China has described the Korean War as a civil war between two regimes and denied North Korea’s invasion of South Korea, drawing criticism. China’s remarks run counter to UN Security Council resolutions, which state the war broke out following North Korea’s attack on the South. China’s relations with its neighboring states have significantly deteriorated this year, including skirmishes along the border with India, a maritime territorial dispute with Vietnam and mounting tensions with Taiwan over its U.S. weapons deal. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss the motives behind the multiple disputes China is involved in.
