There are growing expectations for a vaccine against COVID-19, as U.S. pharmaceutical companies Moderna and Pfizer have launched phase 3 of their vaccine trials. Russian health authorities said they are gearing up for a mass vaccination campaign in Oct. Governments around the world are scrambling to secure advanced supplies of potential COVID-19 vaccines for their citizens. The global hunt for a vaccine has also spilled over onto the security front. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said he would not confront Beijing over the South China Sea, adding he had asked China to give him priority access to a potential vaccine. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss the latest updates on vaccine development across the globe and challenges that remain ahead. Kee B. Park, a lecturer at Harvard Medical School, joins us over Skype to weigh in on the hope that a vaccine will mean the end of the pandemic.
