The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the systematic racism that is deeply ingrained in our society. Fears over the virus have fuelled xenophobic sentiments against Asians around the globe. In the U.S, the Black Lives Matter movement sparked after the police killing of an unarmed black man. The anti-racism protests have fuelled calls for Arab countries to abolish kafala, an abusive sponsorship system for migrant workers. In Korea, where there is a growing number of foreign workers and multicultural families, lawmakers are moving to introduce an anti-discrimination bill. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to talk more about global efforts to combat racism and racial discrimination.
