Latin America has become the new global epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the regional death toll surpassing 100,000. Many states in the U.S. are seeing a resurgence of infections as they reopen. Japan has been reporting over 50 cases per day since it lifted the state of emergency last week. South Korean health authorities said the country is in the middle of a second wave of the pandemic. Has the second wave, which was originally expected in the fall, arrived early? In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to talk more about how countries should prepare for a second surge, including the need for another lockdown or strict social distancing measures.
