The U.S.-China dispute over the origins of COVID-19 has now evolved into what some view as a new Cold War. The U.S. blames China for delayed virus response and the subsequent spread of the disease, while China claims the U.S. is passing the buck. The tensions have recently spilled over into the political arena, with Washington threatening to impose sanctions, if Beijing pushes ahead with its plan to introduce a controversial security law on Hong Kong. The world is closely watching the latest developments, fearful that the two largest economies could be entering into another trade war in the midst of the economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to talk more about the escalating tensions between the superpowers.
