The trade spat between South Korea and Japan is still ongoing, after first breaking out more than a month ago. A number of new variables have emerged, which could decide the outcome of the trade war, including Japan’s impending decision on whether it will remove South Korea from its whitelist of favored trading partners. More than 1,100 items could be subject to tighter export control measures if South Korea is removed from the whitelist. The Seoul governmemt sent a letter to Japan on July 24 to protest its decision, while the two countries also locked horns in Geneva at a WTO General Council meeting on July 23-24. In this week’s edition of 'Foreign Correspondents', we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss the latest developments in the escalating trade war between South Korea and Japan.
