Foreign Correspondents Ep.145 - Forecast of peninsula affairs in the second half of 2019
From the G20 to the trilateral summit in Panmunjeom
A forecast of peninsula affairs in the second half of 2019

The global spotlight has turned to the Korean Peninsula once again, following President Trump's visit to South Korea on the heels of the G20 Summit. After meeting South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Trump headed to Panmunjeom in the Demilitarized Zone, where he held a surprise, impromptu meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, crossing over the Military Demarcation Line in the process. Trump had hinted at meeting Kim during a series of tweets in the run-up to his South Korea visit, and has become the first U.S. President to step foot on North Korean soil in 66 years, following the signing of the armistice that ended hostilities in the Korean War. Pundits say the three-way meeting between the leaders of the two Koreas and the U.S. has provided new momentum for the stalled dialogue between Pyeongyang and Washington following the no-deal Hanoi summit. In this week's edition of 'Foreign Correspondents', we sit down with our panel of journalists to take a closer look at the South Korea-U.S. summit, G20 Osaka, and the diplomatic chess moves that are being made in and around the Korean Peninsula.
