Foreign Correspondents Ep.131 - Celebrities and immoral behavior
The Seungri scandal throws S. Korea into a state of shock and
raises questions on the moral standing of the country's celebrities

South Korea has been left stunned by the Seungri scandal. It all started last November, when an assault case was reported at 'Burning Sun', a Seoul nightclub owned by former BIGBANG member Seungri. The incident snowballed into a much bigger scandal, involving charges of prostitution and collusion with the police. On March 11, a group chat log involving Seungri was leaked to the public, where singer Jung Joon-young was seen sharing sex videos he had filmed illegally. The scandal has raised many ethical questions surrounding the country's entertainment industry, with some critics pointing to the sense of privilege and entitlement held by many celebrities to be the main cause. Others meanwhile, say the talent agencies have an equal responsibility to bear for not properly educating the artists and for engaging in an attempted cover-up in the scandal. TV and radio networks have also come under fire, for enabling celebrities facing severe accusations to continue their careers, In this week's edition of 'Foreign Correspondents', we sit down with our panel of journalists to talk more about the Seungri scandal and the pervasive issue of ethical lapses in South Korea's entertainment industry.
