The Fourth Industrial Revolution has brought about big changes to our daily lives, with the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and blockchain technology now being familiar terms even to the ordinary citizen. These new technologies are expected to boost productivity and bring about changes to the labor market as well. However, many are forecasting these changes to be disruptive to the job market, with a 2017 survey on 1,000 South Koreans showing that 9 out of 10 respondents expected many human jobs to disappear as a result of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Some experts are calling for the adoption of a universal income due to the possibility of mass unemployment among the vulnerable working class, while others believe that the Fourth Industrial Revolution could create more jobs than the ones they replace. In this week's edition of "Foreign Correspondents", we'll discuss the Fourth Industrial Revolution in more detail, as well as its possible impact on the labor market.
