The third meeting between President Moon Jae-in and Chairman Kim Jong-un!
A sneak peek of the upcoming third inter-Korean summit
The third inter-Korean summit of the year is taking place in Pyongyang for 2 nights and 3 days starting on September 18 through to September 20, with South Korean President Moon Jae-in scheduled to travel North. It is hoped that the latest meeting could yield a breakthrough in the stalled nuclear talks and an impasse in North Korea-U.S. relations. Other issues in focus include the possible signing of a peace treaty, details on more concerte denuclearization steps from North Korea, and President Moon's continuing role as a key mediator in regional diplomacy. Over in Washington, the White House announced that a second North Korea-U.S. summit was in the works following President Trump's receipt of a personal letter from Kim Jong-un, the fourth of its kind. Trump remarked on Twitter that "We will get get it done together", in response to Kim's letter where he expressed his "unwavering faith" in the U.S. President. Some critics have pointed out however, that Trump is simply trying to weather through a looming political crisis at home by trumpeting his progress with North Korea. In this week's edition of "Foreign Correspondents", we sit down with our panel of journalists to talk about all of these issues and more, regarding the third inter-Korean summit.
