Foreign Correspondents Ep.90 - North Korea's denuclearization scenario
The Pyongyang-Washington summit and North Korea's denuclearization

North Korea's denuclearization has become the focal point of media attention across the globe on the eve of the reclusive nation's summit with the United States. On May 24, Pyongyang dismantled its nuclear testing facility at Punggye-ri as the first step of this process, but achieving complete denuclearization will take bolder and far more complex measures. The Libya and Iran models have been mentioned as possible benchmarks, with both countries voluntarily forfeiting their nuclear program after years of international pressure and sanctions. However, the U.S. is proposing a "President Trump model" of denuclearization for North Korea, given its different circumstances compared to Libya and Iran. Meanwhile, President Trump has named South Korea as the country that should lead economic aid efforts for North Korea, in addition to China and Japan as well. However, the Tokyo government says it will not extend any offers of economic cooperation unless the issue of Japanese abductees being held by North Korea is resolved. In this week's edition of "Foreign Correspondents", we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss the issues surrounding North Korea's denuclearization as well as the possible rewards.
