Foreign Correspondents Ep.84 - The 2018 inter-Korean summit
The beginning of an era of peace on the Korean Peninsula! The 2018 inter-Korean summit

For the third time since the division of the Korean Peninsula, the leaders of South and North Korea have sat down on the negotiating table. On the morning of April 27, President Moon Jae-in and Chairman Kim Jong-un met for the first time at the military demarcation line. After an official welcoming ceremony, they convened for a morning discussion which took place under a jovial atmosphere. In the afternoon, they took part in a tree-planting ceremony to wish for peace and prosperity, followed by a 30-minute walk where the two leaders shared a private moment without the presence of any aides. After another round of talks in the afternoon, they announced the Panmunjom Declaration that called for the beginning of an era of peace and the end of war on the Korean Peninsula. The declaration included agreements on denuclearization, the formal end to the Korean War, and measures to achieve meaningful progress in inter-Korean relations, reduction of military tensions and elimination of the risk of war.
This week on "Foreign Correspondents", we sit down with our panel of foreign journalists to discuss the meaning and outcome of the 2018 inter-Korean summit that has brought about a seismic shift in the geopolitical environment surrounding the Korean Peninsula.
