'Pesticide tainted-egg controversy' is shaking the world! This past July, eggs produced in Belgium and the Netherlands were found to contain the insecticide Fipronil, which is used to kill cockroaches and fleas. However, a few days after the European tainted-egg incident, contaminated eggs were found in Korea, and the nation was at red alert. Even eggs that have been certified as "organic" have been found to contain the pesticide DDT. Due to this, some restaurants have temporarily stopped the sales of food that contain eggs. What was once consumed without any worry.... consumers are now in great chaos.
Recently, a phenomenon of fear of chemical substances, called "chemophobia" is spreading. 'Chemophobia' has rapidly spread to Korean society since April 2011, when the 'humidifier disinfectant controversy' broke out in Korea. These 'humidifier disinfectants' caused patients to fall ill, or even die due to lung diseases caused by the chemical substances contained in the disinfectant. By August 2017, the number of people who died due to the 'humidifier disinfectant' exceeded 1,200. Afterwards, it was reported that chemical substances that can have a fatal impact on the human body, were found in products commonly used in everyday life, such as sanitary pads, toothpaste, and wet tissues.... as this week, we will discuss the wave of European pesticide tainted-egg controversy, as well as the topic off 'chemophobia'.
