Foreign Correspondents Ep.44
Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games D-200

The 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will be held in 200 days. With the slogan 'Passion.Connected.' the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will be held next year for 17 days from February 9th to 25th. Pyeongchang, which failed to be selected as the host city for the Winter Games twice before, was finally chosen as the host city for the 2018 Winter Olympics in July 2011. The people cheered, as economic experts predicted that the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will have a direct and indirect economic effect of 65 trillion won. On the other hand, whether or not North Korea will participate in the Winter Olympics is in question. The Moon Jae-in administration hopes the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will improve inter-Korean relations, as we examine together, the preparation process and the expected effects of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

How can the Pyeongchang Olympics be a successful Olympics?

The Olympics, a celebration of the world! But not all Olympics have been recorded as 'successful' Olympics. That's because there are a number of countries that suffered economic losses due to the Olympics Games. The 2014 Sochi Winter Games is also an example of an Olympic event that suffered deficits. When it was selected as the host city in 2007, the budget was estimated at $12 billion. However, the actual amount spent on the Sochi Winter Games was $51 billion. After the Olympics, the use of the Olympic venues is also something to consider. Canada, which has held the Winter Olympics in two occasions, is regarded as the best example of recycling stadiums by utilizing the Olympic Stadium as a regional sports center or as a training site for winter sports... So what needs to be done for a successful Pyeongchang Winter Olympics? In this week's [Foreign Correspondents], we will discuss various topics about the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
