Kim Cheol-woong was recognized as a gifted pianist in North Korea. He took up the piano at the age of 6, entered Pyongyang Comprehensive Music School at age 8 and joined the Pyongyang Symphony Orchestra at the age of 25 as lead pianist. However, he fled to South Korea in search of a world in which art is not exploited for repression. Here in South Korea, the pianist holds about 150 concerts a year and foster young students thanks to his virtuosic technique and expressive emotions.
