As of Oct. 17, foreigners bought net 12.452 trillion won in the South Korean market and remained net buyers for 35 consecutive days, the longest period they remained net buyers in the local market since 2008. And they are setting a new record each day. So-called the second "Buy Korea" fever is hitting the market. There had been similar "Buy Korea" fevers in 1998 and 2008 as well. But at that time, short-term investments prevailed with the market sentiment easily swayed by domestic and overseas variables as well as weak domestic market conditions. Now, local market is viewed as an upgraded market which brings investors stable investment profits based on stronger fundamentals. This can be seen by a series of positive analysis on South Korean economy and stock market by foreign media and economic institutes. We will discuss why foreigners are considering South Korean market as an attractive investment place and what steps the government should take to prolong this buying fever.
