Will KONEX form a bridge to creative economic growth?
Interviewee: Korea Capital Market Institute senior researcher Lee In-hyung
On July 1, KONEX(Korea New Exchange), the stock market for growth style small venture companies, was opened to the public. KONEX is an exclusive market for up and coming firms such as small startups, small businesses and venture companies that have potential for growth but are too small in size to be entered into existing stock markets. KONEX is the third market followed by the securities market and KOSDAQ.
It was created after 2-years of negotiation over the system and regulation between the financial authority, the Korea Exchange and the venture company sector. The first day of trading went well with some 1.3 won's worth of transactions made among 20 listed companies. The KONEX market is expected to provide new life for the 'Death Valley' stage, when a startup is the weakest as it starts to build as a business until the recovery for reinvestment. We find out whether KONEX can form the basis of the Park Geun-hye administration's creative economy and whether it will succeed.
