Korea's pet market is expanding. The population who has a pet stands at 10 million - meaning one in five Korean people has a pet. Amid aging population as well as increasing number of nuclear families and single-person households, more people who feel lonely are perceiving pets as their families. According to a research, as a country's national income rises, the money people spend in pets also increases. Let's find out how much money Korean people spend in pets and how large the pet market is.

Exports by local venture-backed companies reached all-time high last year. With the need for water purifiers coming to the fore as water contamination gets more serious, Korea's small firm Hanilworld Co. is satisfying the needs of consumers, who want clean water, by continuously developing technologies. By applying carbon nanotube filters, it compensated for its water purifier's defects. It also introduced real-time sterilization system using ultraviolet rays, and bio-nanotechnology for the first time in the world to enhance water absorption rate and minimize germs and bacteria. For the first time in four years, reunion of families separated after the Korean War took place. Originally, it was supposed to take place around Chusok last year, but things remained uncertain until now because of North Korea's unilateral delay of the event. Then the latest reunion could take place amid a sudden agreement between South and North Korea. But as the event was delayed by five months, some of the elderly separated family members couldn't attend the reunion as they passed away or suffered a deterioration in health.
