There is a jewelry brand that's expected to spark a new Korean wave. It's Mucha, which was commissioned to design the Miss Korea crown for 4 consecutive years and is loved by top Korean celebrities. And its founder Kim Jeong-ju has designed fine and fashion jewelry for the past 23 years.
Born and raised in a rural area in Gangwon-do, Kim Jeong-ju says that she was able to develop her creativity in nature. After obtaining her bachelor's in science, she was recommended by one of her professors to study gemology and she immediately knew in her heart that she was meant to be in this field. Now, she is not only gaining success as a gemologist, but also as a jewelry designer and coordinator.
There were many moments of hardship and crisis in her life. She had various jobs such as cleaning buildings and working at a cake shop while in Australia to study just to make ends meet. And then, there was a time when she had to leave her young kids at home and join the workforce when her husband's business suffered a decline.
During these difficult situations, she maintained her positive attitude, smiling instead of crying and speaking of hope instead of despair.
She was honored with the Presidential Award at the Korea Design Awards for the Miss Korean crowns that demonstrated the beauty of Korea and has even worked with a number of Korean wave stars as a jewelry designer and stylist. Recently, she opened a brand store at the Peak Galleria in Hong Kong to expand into the global market.
Jewelry designer Kim Jeong-ju has climbed her way to the top after overcoming various obstacles. Tune into The INNERview to hear her success story.
