Up-and-coming artist Ahn Da-bin

An up-and-coming artist Ahn Da-bin overcame his red-green color blindness and received an explosive response from the art world, leaving a strong impression with paintings resembling a high-resolution photograph. He is an artist who stresses the importance of not only using proper techniques, but also communicating with the audience.

He left for the states after finishing his freshman year in middle school and majored in Western Painting at Pratt Institute in New York. After completing his second year in the program in 2009, he returned to Korea where he has held solo exhibitions with great success despite his young age. He inherited his artistic talent from his mother Oh So-yeong, who is a sculptor, and his father, Ahn Sung-ki, who is a film actor. He demonstrated his raw talent at a young age and his artworks were different from those of others. His paintings, each of which set a calm, serene mood in reflection to his mature personality, were enough of break the stereotype against the young artist and gather wide praise. His self-portraits are especially in the spotlight for depicting the co-existence of the conscious and the unconscious.

Ahn Da-bin joins us on The INNERview, prior to his departure for America to continue his education, to take us to the scene of his final exhibition of 2013, and to share his story of having a well-renowned father and being an artist with red-green color blindness as well as his future plans as an artist.
