He demonstrated raw talent in baseball in grade 4 and was driven by his passion for the sport ever since. In the year he debuted in the professional league as a player on Samsung Lions, he won the 'Best Batter' and 'Rookie of the Year' awards. He also broke many records, becoming the No. 1 all-time leader in 9 areas including home runs, hits, runs and base on balls. He overcame the slump in his career caused by a shoulder injury in 2002 by developing the 'Manse batting stance' where he would raise his hands after swinging the bat to ease the pain.
After announcing his retirement from professional baseball, he undertook new challenges to open a new chapter in his life. He established the Yang Jun-hyuk Baseball Foundation and organized youth baseball championships and youth mentoring programs. He has also continued to communicate with the baseball fans as a commentator.
