With a rapid turn in inter-Korean relations, 2018 has seen an array of exchange initiatives in many areas. While various civilian efforts are making significant contributions, many point to health and medical care as being one area where exchange is most desperately needed. Even at times when the two Koreas were verging on a military confrontation, medical care continued to serve as a channel of exchange – and KIM Young-hoon, the Steering Committee Chair of the Inter-Korean Foundation for Health and Medical Education, has been at the very heart of it all.

The Inter-Korean Foundation for Health and Medical Education has been providing scholarships for North Korean defectors as well as supporting a new medical school at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology; they're also preparing to publish an inter-Korean dictionary of medical terms. THE INNERVIEW meets KIM Young-hoon to hear his vision for a 'healthy unification.'
