As the President of Tangerine, a design consulting firm located in England, Lee Don-tae has provided consulting services to numerous world-class companies worldwide including Samsung Electronics, SK and Asiana Airlines among many other big names. He is well-known for taking part in a design project for British Airways, who intended to innovate their business class section. After introducing the S-shaped seating arrangement developed by Tangerine, the airline company saw a sudden shift from deficit to surplus, and now, they are recording more than US$ 1 billion in operating profits.
His remarkable achievements and success were impossible to predict when he was young and leading an ordinary life. His father, who was an elementary school teacher and painter, always sought jobs in small towns away from major cities and so, naturally, he grew up close to nature. His father passed away when he was in middle school, and he relocated to the national capital on his own after obtaining his high school diploma to get into an art college. It took him 3 years to get accepted into the university of his choice, and after finishing his master′s program, he got on the plane to study in England. Afterwards, he began working at Tangerine as a intern, and just 7 years later, he was appointed the President of the design firm. The transition point in his professional and personal life occurred when he seized the opportunity to buy the company shares.
