Kim Ji-young is one of the most acclaimed ballerinas in Korea, who is known for her astounding precision and exceptional mastery of techniques.
The prima ballerina took up ballet in 3rd grade and began intensive training at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet at the age of 14. Still in her teens, she became the youngest dancer to join the Korea National Ballet and was promoted to principal dancer in just 2 months. Then, in 2002, she began working with the Dutch National Ballet as a grand sujet, which presented her with more opportunities to gain experience on the global stage.
To the revered ballerina, ballet, to which she devoted her entire life, is "a blessing and a curse." She has held on to her passion despite the devastating injuries and hardships to become one of the world's most versatile ballerinas praised for her brilliant techniques, artistry and form.
After gaining international recognition, the award-winning dancer finally returned home to rejoin the Korea National Ballet as the principal dancer in 2009. Although she already has her hands full with practice and preparation for her never-ending performances, she is also dedicated to training junior dancers to contribute to the advancement of Korean ballet.
