Documentary Special Part 1[Missing]
Another forgotten tragedy from this war, the Korean-American separated families
Here is presented a special story about the Korean-American separated families, which Arirang TV broadcasts for the first time as a comemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.
As American citizens, they were excluded from the Koreans' negotiation about the possible reunion of separated families, who have lived with the devastating loss of their missing family members for 60 years.
They are dwindling away one by one through age, without the fulfillment of their dream to finally see their loved families that are far away across the ocean.
Most of them are in their 70s which means there is a lack of time for this.
Most of their children do not even have the concern to listen to their suffering.
But one day, a young 2nd generation Korean American man came forward to record their stories. He is a graduate from Harvard Medical College and a resident at Harvard university Hospital.
For 5 years he has recorded the stories of the separated families' all across the United States. His name is Jason Ahn.
Through his eyes we will see the bottomless tragedy that happened in the Korean Peninsula, and the separated families who are still struggling with this.
Jason is showing these Korean American separated families’ stories as a testimony of the war, and difficult lives in a foreign country and their endless efforts and frustrations to contact their families in their remote motherland.
Nobody has paid much attention to their rights to see their families, which have nothing to do with politics at all but surely it is only a humanitarian matter, and that it is an urgent assignment that all humans should be involved in.
The Arirang TV's special documentary is made in as a memory of the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. It is not only about the Korean American separated family's 60-year-long pain but also about our hope. May the problems from the armistice be solved and may peace finally come to all.
