The first Korean to become Chief Deputy of the LAFD, Emile Mack adopts a Korean girl! The full story is revealed for the first time!!

Emile Mack(51) was the first Korean to become Chief Deputy of Administrative Operations at the LAFD. In 2007 he was confirmed as the 16th Fire Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, becoming the head of 4,000 firefighters and managing 100 firestations in LA. Emile Mack has led a three decade-long career at the Los Angeles Fire Department from 1978. He has held the rank of Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief, and Deputy Chief and was chosen as a candidate for Chief of the LAFD after the former Chief's retirement in 2009. His success has received much attention, not only from the media but especially from the Korean media for his story as a Korean but also as an adoptee.

Emile Mack and his wife Jenny Mack(47) who met while working for the LAFD started their life-long project with Jenny's retirement. They were going to adopt a Korean baby. Emile Mack was adopted by an African American family at the age of 3 in 1960. He received much love from his parents and brothers and said being adopted was a huge blessing in his life. Emile Mack who wanted to return all the love he received as a Korean adoptee wished to adopt a Korean child, and his wife was also overjoyed with their decision.

After a two year preparation period the Mack's finally adopted an eight month old Korean girl named "Mi-young." The couple arrived in Korea on September 25, and two days later met "Mi-young" for the first time, giving her the English name, "Mia." The family is now living happily together in Torrance, California. The Mack family held a special first birthday party for Mia on January 22, and their inspiring story is revealed for the first time on Arirang TV.
