Emile Mack(51) was the first Korean to become Chief Deputy of Administrative Operations at the LAFD. In 2007 he was confirmed as the 16th Fire Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, becoming the head of 4,000 firefighters and managing 100 firestations in LA. Emile Mack has led a three decade-long career at the Los Angeles Fire Department from 1978. He has held the rank of Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief, and Deputy Chief and was chosen as a candidate for Chief of the LAFD after the former Chief's retirement in 2009. His success has received much attention, not only from the media but especially from the Korean media for his story as a Korean but also as an adoptee.
