The East Carpathians, the world's first trilateral biosphere reserve
There's a headstone on the top of the steep mountain where a great tree even holds its breath.
Three sides of headstone was carved with each different 3 languages. And a vast nature of border area, which was divided into three districts, unfolds before the headstone.
Mt. Clemens is an apex where three countries, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine meets.
Headstone, having three sides, not only deliver deeply divided border, but also stands for emerging peace of three countries.
The East Carparthians Transboundary Biosphere Reserve in Mt. Clemens is the world first Unesco conservarion area which Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine organize and forms. UNESCO has been protecting and managing it by designating conservation area as a high ecological vaue, and we call transboundary biosphere reserve where two more countries meet. However, the world first project wasn't that easy as we thought. Three conturies has had bloody history for a long time. The second World War is the severe period towrad three conturies. However, consideraton for peace, and the 'nature' chosen for peace allowed them to seek for cooperation and peace which wasn't that easy among three conturies.
We visit Bieszczady National Park in Poland, Poloniny National Park in Slovakia, Uzhanski Naitonal Park in Ukraine which represents East Carpathians Transboundary Biosphere Reserves, and hear cooperation among three countries and which committment they're currently making to preserve conservation area. We also hear friendly peace of advice toward our DMZ after they has gone through hardship and achieved peaceful coexistance.
