At Wooridul School, an alternative school for North Korean youth defectors who missed their chance to study, a unique band called Wooridul Band takes a chance at a new dream of making music. Teachers went through great lengths to get instruments for its members who opened their eyes to music for the first time after arriving in South Korea. Like that, Wooridul Band was created.
Among Wooridul Band members, vocalist Cho Hye-suk and bassist Seo Guk-seong are the most passionate about music. Cho Hye-suk auditions to realize her dream of becoming a singer, but she faces setbacks due to her strong North Korean dialect and vocalization. Meanwhile, bassist Seo Guk-seong is torn between following his dream of music or choosing a stable life. They risked their lives to cross North Korean borders, but becoming musicians in South Korea almost feels more difficult. Will they be able to make their dreams come true?
On the stage, they are just youths full of energy. However, they hide stories that are beyond imagination. Cho Hye-suk had to stay inside a shelter for 7 years in China, and Seo Guk-seong carried metal scraps across Chinese borders to take care of his sick mother. Both of them lost contact with their mothers a long time ago.
About 25,000 North Korean defectors live in South Korea. For the first time, the young North Koreans share their worries, life stories, and reason they want to be onstage. Meet Wooridul Band, an amateur band that lacks skills, but not dreams.
