Seoraksan Mountain boasts magnificent charms of mountain and ocean
Have you ever visited Seoraksan Mountain in the winter after a snowfall? Have you seen the mountain shrouded in a mist? For most of the year, Seoraksan’s peak is covered in snow. "Seorak" means snow-white rock. Signs of winter’s arrival show up earlier in Seoraksan, and winter also lingers longer compared to its surrounding area.
Throughout the four seasons, Seoraksan Mountain offers stunning views as it is draped in snow in winter, green foliage in spring, dense woodland plants in summer and autumnal colors in fall.
Within this beauty lies the granite rocks that have peculiar formations carved by millions of years of erosion. The hiking trails are treacherous. It takes an adventurous, intrepid spirit to tackle Seoraksan Mountain, but these dangers add to the charm of the mountain.
The alpine rescue team will risk their own lives to save hikers in distress!
But members of the alpine rescue team in Seoraksan have no time to enjoy the scenic beauty of the mountain.
After the 119 Alpine Rescue Team was established in 2007 to assist hikers in Seoraksan Mountain, they have proven to be true professionals and earned the trust of the hiking community. They receive more than 600 emergency calls a year while each member works 60 hours a week. Despite this physically demanding routine, they take pride in their work and find it gratifying..
Even though the rescue team works outdoors in a beautiful landscape, the job is fraught with danger and challenges..
What compels them to push their physical and mental limits?.
These hardy alpine rescuers share similar traits to Seoraksan, a mountain with grandeur and gravitas. We present the viewers with an intimate look into the lives of mountain rescuers in Gangwon-do Province..
This program will air at 9 AM on January 14.
