The hallmark of interfaith harmony, Korea!
Korea is a multi-religious society where Buddhism, Protestantism, Catholicism, and Chondoism coexist together with many others. An estimated 100,000 muslims are also part of the faithful crowd. Yet despite having so many faiths competing for followers, religious conflict is rare, with all the different creeds coexisting in peace. By now, it has become a usual scene on Christmas and Buddha's Birthday for spiritual leaders from both sides to visit each other's place of worship and celebrate together.
Korean Buddhism in the eyes of a believer of another denomination... And what is Seon (禪)?
This Buddha's Birthday, a very special companionship is born between a Buddhist monk and a Catholic priest. Father Bernardo from France visits the millenial Mihwang Temple in Ddangguet village, Haenam, South Jeolla Province. What does he see in Korean Buddhism, and what exactly is Seon meditation in Korean Buddhism?
In the end, the monk and the priest reach the conclusion that the final goal for those of the clerical profession is putting into practice the principle of loving thy neighbors. They join forces to tackle the common obstacles that lie on the way to dialogue and peace between religion and together, they look out on the same path looking to a glorious and shared future.
