Lauded for opening new horizons in fusion gugak, deftly combining the energy of gugak with western music elements.

 
♬ Song of Peace / Song So-hee
 

First sung after 1945, the Song of Peace marks the beginning of sin-minyo (new folk music), combining folk songs with elements of western music.

One of Korea's most representative dances, featuring elegant costumes and beautiful choreography.

Natural shapes such as a beautiful quivering flower, and undulating waves are depicted, highlighting the graceful lines of the fans.

 

♬ Dance in the Fragrance of Aloes / Hwang Byung-ki
 

Composed in 1974 by gayageum master Hwang Byung-ki.
The title 'Chimhyangmu'(침향무) means 'a dance performed in the aroma of Chimhyang (침향), an Indian scent.

With its roots firmly in traditional music, the work implements previously unheard of gayageum techniques to create a new sound.

A popular canzone song commemorating legendary Italian tenor Enrico Caruso, made famous by Luciano Pavarotti.
Here given an emotional new interpretation by Haegeumplus.

 

♬ Rhythms of the Three Southern Regions / Kim Deok-soo Samulnori

 

Samulnori consists of four instruments, the kkwaenggwari (gong), the jing (gong), the janggu (hourglass-shaped drum) and the buk (drum).

The Rhythms of the Three Southern Regions is a compilation of the more important rhythms found in the regions of Youngnam, Honam, and Chungcheong (central).

It is a major example of samulnori, which has impressed audiences world-wide with its expressions of the vigor, harmony, and dynamic energy of Korean people.

♬ Arirang Suite / Kim Yong-woo

 

Arirang wasinscribed to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.

The Arirang Suite is a collection of major variations of Arirang representing various regions of the Korean peninsula, and consists of Gu-Arirang, Eorangtaryeong, Haeju Arirang, Miryang Arirang, and Bonjo Arirang.

Theme song from 1978 film of the same title, starring Anthony Quinn.

Composed by Chuck Mangione and originally performed on flugelhorn.
This version is given a gugak style reinterpretation, with a taepyeongso concerto affording it a more energetic and vibrant atmosphere.
